millefolium - Cultivar Affinity
ns:
A large number of cultivars are listed under the name A.
millefolium and are known
ns: seedlings of it. The species however ranges in color from
white to pink through
ns: red. Any cultivar with orange, salmon, or yellow tints is
almost certainly a cross to
ns: one of the yellow-flowered species - including A.
filipendulina, taygetea, and their
ns: hybrids. We have assigned most of these "sunset"
colored cultivars to the species
ns: rather than to A. millefolium to reflect this likely
parentage. Similarly some cultivars
ns: have distinctly silver or greyed foliage outside the natural
range of A. millefolium.
ns: These and other traits make it possible to refer some
cultivars outside this one
ns: species.
